SUMMARY:Southwark Mental Health Matters conference
DESCRIPTION:\n\n“Mental Health Matters: It Could be You”\, a day confer
 ence to look at how churches can create space to talk about mental health 
 and well being with our congregations\, and the challenges of poor mental 
 among people in our communities.\n\nAs we know\, members of churches somet
 imes struggle to show that we care and how to connect with those affected 
 with mental health problems. We would like to explore ways churches can pr
 omote mental wellbeing as prevention\, provide early support for the menta
 l health needs of their own congregations and work towards reducing social
  isolation and stigmatisation among members who may be affected in that wa
 y.\n\nThe event is organised by the Department of Justice\, Peace and the 
 Integrity of Creation (JPIC) department of the Diocese of Southwark and St
  Faith’s\, North Dulwich in partnership with South London and Maudsley (
 SLaM) NHS Foundation.\n\nThe aim of this conference is to:\n\n 	Increase a
 wareness of mental health issues\n 	Understand the role of religion in men
 tal health promotion and recovery\n 	Develop the ability to reflect on bot
 h good and bad practices within faith groups\n 	Deepen self-knowledge and 
 awareness\n\nThere will be two rounds of workshops covering a wide range o
 f subjects including: how to identify if someone needs help\, supporting o
 ptimal mental health (with or without mental illness)\, depression\, cause
 s and consequences of poor mental health\, difference between delusions an
 d demonic possessions\, supporting people with mental health needs living 
 within faith communities...to list a few.\n\nIt will be also an opportunit
 y to share about a 10 week free course in ‘Spiritual and Pastoral Care i
 n Mental Health’ organised by South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS.\n\nH
